Adopt-an-Area

We adopted the corner at the north entrance of campus as our "Adopt-an-Area." We are responsible for maintaining the spot, weeding and planting new flowers.

Sumter County Red Cross

Disaster Team

We serve as the Disaster Team for the Red Cross in Sumter County. We are supervised and trained by the West Alabama Chapter in Tuscaloosa. In the fall of 1998, Theta Gamma assisted the Sumter County EMA when Hurricane Georges struck the Gulf Coast. We assisted the Red Cross by helping to set up a shelter on the UWA Campus in the Armory. We also were responsible for obtaining supplies and donation, registering those housed at the shelter and dismantling the shelter. Brothers worked around the clock as evacuees sought refuge in Livingston.

Sumter Housing Authority

In coordination with Tom Luke, Livingston City Administrator, we have begun a project cleaning up areas in the Livingston community. We have cleaned up two low-income housing projects. The first was the one located next to Wal-Mart and the second north of Livingston.

Sumter County Poll Watching

Brothers worked as poll watchers for most of the voting sites in Sumter County in the 1998 and 2000 elections. Sumter County, known for its prevalent voter fraud, was under a watchful eye by Sigma Pi Fraternity. Brothers worked from 7 AM until 7 PM at places ranging from Coatopa to Epes to Boyd. Brothers made notes of fraud that took places throughout the day and stayed in contact with officials.
