Name: CHAPTER CONNECTIONS
Supplies: Ball of yarn Needed
Suggested: 2 minutes for each person in the chapter/group
Time
Instructions: Ask all members to stand in a circle.
The leader should hold the ball of yarn in her/his hand and
inform the group that she/he is going to share how she/he plans on
contributing to the chapter.
When finished, she/he is going to gently toss the ball of yarn to
another person while still holding onto the end of the string. That
person should introduce themselves and then continue by expressing
her/his goals (or contributions), holding onto the string, and then
tossing the ball to another member.
The yarn should be held tightly between members.
When the entire group has shared, you will have a large "web" of
yarn in the circle. The leader should talk about the value of the
contributions of each individual.
* If each person did not pull their own weight, and "dropped the
ball," the rest of the members need to pick up the slack for
her/him.
As an example, have every other member release their hold on the
yarn. The web will become slack, illustrating the work will need to
be picked up by other members.
Discussion Questions: How can the you encourage members to
follow through on their commitments? How can you get members to ask
for help and support from each other? What other resources at their
disposal? (each other, advisors, alumni, National) How can they all
pull their own weight in the chapter? What will they do when they
are feeling overwhelmed and cannot complete a
task? |
